Trophy Awards

On
February 27, the Nicola
Valley Fish and Game
Club, of
which I am
the current 2nd. Vice President, hosted their annual Game Dinner and
trophy Award Night. It's the one major event every member of the club
looks forward. This year was no different, everybody attended for an
evening of good food, fun, story telling and admiring all the game
trophys that have been taken during the hunting season.
The
buffet
offered a variety of deliciously cooked and prepared game meats that
hunters donated for this special evening. Among my personal favourites
where the elk steaks, bison roast, smoked salmon, bear meatloaf and
cougar steaks. My wife tried and liked the deer mule deer steaks,
beaver ragout, fresh water shrimp and broiled salmon. For those with a
sweet tooth, like myself, there were plenty of home made cakes, pastry
and cookies to try out. It was a meal fit for a King.
Many
hunters seemed to have had a good hunting season judging by the many
respectable whitetail deer, mule deer and elk antlers that made the
book. On the table a display of the awards to be given out to members
for best animal taken in a variety of categories, such as best deer
harvested by a man, a women and youth. There where also awards for
environmental and stewardship achievements. Other awards were given for
big bore rifle-, small bore rifle- and blackpowder shooting competition
winners.
For me the personal surprise of the evening was when I unexpectedly had
been called on stage to receive a special certificate of appreciation
for environmental work.
This
young
lady has good reason to smile. One because she harvested a huge
whitetail deer buck. Two she got not only one award for it but two. In
the background club president Paul Komonoski and handing over the award
is the clubs 1st Vice President, Ed Collins.
Many
prizes could be won on a special raffle for the kids. On the Nicola
Valley Fish & Game Club Game Dinner and Trophy Award Night
everybody is a winner.
